Blitz T.T.C. Inter School League
Format
Each school will play a home and away match against each school, e.g. 6 schools overall, 10 matches altogether.
Each school will have 4 teams: a year 8 team, yr.9 team, yr.10 team, yr.11 team
Each year group will then have 3 players playing from that year, all numbered 1-3 with the strongest player being no.1 and
weakest player being no.3 (if one person plays at no1 in 1 match, he is then not allowed to play below the no2 or no3 in
any of the other matches)
Each Year group will then play their respective year group from a different school e.g. QEHS year 8 team will play TVA year
8 team, and QEHS year 9 team will play TVA year 9 team etc.
The format for each match will be as follows:
Home school yr.8s

Away School yr.8s

As you can see each player will have 2 games each, as well as a doubles. The doubles game can consist of whoever you
wish e.g. 1&3 v 2&3 or 1&2 v 1&2
The final score of the match for each year group will be the number of matches the home school wins to the number of
matches the away school wins, e.g. 7 matches in total: 4-3 win, 5-2 win, 6-1 win, 7-0 win. This means that every match
counts
The final score between the schools will be the total number of games won across all years, e.g. if yr7’s win 4-3, yr8’s win
4-3, yr.9’s lose 4-3, yr.10s lose 4-3, then the overall match will be drawn 14-14.
2 Points will be given to the school that wins overall, and 1 point will be given for an overall draw.
If there are two Schools on the same amount of points at the end of the season then it will go down to the difference
between games for and against.
The school that then comes top of the table at the end of the season will therefore win the Blitz T.T.C Inter school league
and each player from that school will receive a medal and the school will receive an annual plaque, returnable at the end of
each year.
The awards will be sponsored by BJ Trophies of Gainsborough
All results, tables and player averages will be published on www.blitzttc.co.uk.
Matches
The matches will be best of 5, up to 11 points, with each player having 2 serves each. If the score is 10-10 then it is 2 clear
points, with each player having alternate serves.
Play will be on 4 table tennis tables (1 for each year group match), with team mates cheering on each other in between
points played, with silence whilst the point is ongoing.
The overall time for the whole match should take no longer really than about 2 hours but obviously it is hard to say when
it’s difficult to say how long each individual game will take.
I understand that this is only giving 12 children the opportunity to play for their school across 4 year groups,
however, this is only the first year that this is going to happen and if it kicks off, then who knows, we could have 4
teams per year (A team, B, C, D) increasing to 48 children across the 4 year groups, in a couple of years time. At the
moment I would just like to get schools playing against each other on a regular basis and get table tennis more
actively involved in the school sporting life.
