With two players from Blitz TTC and Head Coach Paul Johnson coaching the children on the day, the local club were well represented at the event. Both Tom Keast and James Keast made respectable debuts for the County, coming up against some stiff opposition from players ranked much higher them in this month’s ranking list. The team faced a strong Lancashire 1st Team, consisting of England ranked no.25 Robert Barker, it was always going to be an uphill struggle, going down 10-0. They then went on to play local rivals Nottinghamshire. With some fantastic wins for Tom Keast beating Eban Straker-Meads 3-2, and James beating Kyle McIntosh 3-0, the team looked at 5-1 up, set for their first win of the day. But Nottinghamshire rallied and pulled out a 5-5 draw from nowhere. Next up was a weak Clywd, and with Tom Keast on a high from winning both his against Nottinghamshire, he came crashing back down to reality with a 3-2 loss. The rest of the team however, stormed through winning 7-3. James Keast put in an excellent performance to win both of his games in the next match against Staffordshire 2nds. Tom Keast backed up his twin with a double win in this match also for the county team to win 9-1 overall. Beth Cook being the only one to lose in this round. Finally it was Cheshire and with another highly ranked England player in Joe Pilkington to come up against, it was always going to be tough. However, the team fought extremely hard at the end of a long day losing 6-4, with both Nathan Butler and Grace Potter picking up one each and Beth Cook picking up her two. All in all, a good day for the county finishing 3rd overall, and with good performances from the two Blitz players. A satisfying but extremely long day.
